Aims

Our overall aims are to establish a centre where learning is fun and education is creative and accessible to all.

Vision

We believe the children are the future and hope of East Africa and as a result we want to invest in them. We hope to provide an Arts and Activity Centre that will bring children together from a range of backgrounds to learn from each other through creative play.

We hope to promote the East African Arts of story telling, dance, music and art to challenge thinking, break down taboos and get young people to address sensitive issues.

Mission Statement

Heshima means Respect in Swahili and this underlies everything that we do.  We aim to promote respect for children whatever their background, ethnicity or religion. We want to break down barriers and prejudice through using play, drama and sport.

Objectives

At Heshima we aim to provide a well-resourced Art and Activity Centre to be used by local schools, orphanages, youth clubs and community groups. In this centre we aim to:

  • Give opportunity to all children for creative and stimulating play.

  • Provide opportunities for all children to explore the world around them through drama, art, stories, music and play.

  • provide opportunities for young people to develop their skills and knowledge of a range of sports and to organise fixtures and competitions.

  • to use art, drama, music and stories to challenge prejudice and break down barriers.

  • to be an inclusive centre encouraging families from all economic backgrounds, races and cultures to meet together

  • To use the creative arts to help inform our community on ways of preventing HIV, malaria and water bourne diseases.

  • Organise partnership projects between groups in the local community and international organizations eg. Guides, schools, youth clubs.

  • Empower our local rural community by providing work, wherever possible, training, resources and education.

  • Provide an opportunity for local artists and musicians to develop and showcase their work in the local community.

  • Offer support or advice for families and parents who are finding bringing up a family difficult and to offer counseling or support for teenagers
